Does this chap look familiar? Well, if you're a long-time CUD band fan the face might spark a few memories. It is the face of the mysterious J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs, a key but shadowy figure wthin the Church of The Sub-Genius. His face appeared on many CUD flyers, his teachings may also have influenced Carl Puttnam's lyrics.

The Church's original manifesto, encouragingly entitled 'The World Ends Tomorrow AND YOU MAY DIE' was published in 1980 by the mysterious Mr. Dobbs, a man only ever seen in caricature.

"The ultimate aim is to achieve Slack. 'Remember' we are advised, 'the purest, most sublime Slack obtainable is that derived from simply avoiding THE CRAP THAT YOU HAVE TO DO.'

There is, or was, a UK branch of the Church in Brighton and "you too can become an ordained Sub Genius minister for a paltry $20".

Does this sound familiar? Check out the lyrics to I'VE HAD IT WITH BLONDES, SLACK TIME, NOT NESSECARILY EVIL and even PINK FLAMINGO... it's obvious that Carl Puttnam and SLACK are somehow entwined.
